I got my start in optical 21 years ago at LensCrafters. I had the fortune of working with several very
experienced opticians and lab technicians, and from them I absorbed an extraordinary amount of information about optical design, frame fitting, and lens fabrication. I spent seven years with LensCrafters, designing eyeglasses and grinding lenses at half a dozen locations across North Denver.
I decided I was interested in optical as a career and pursued a position in private care where all of the advanced techniques and state-of-the-art technologies in the industry would be available to me. I started as a "third-string" optician at a private optometry practice in 2007. There are many opticians in the U.S., and plenty with a lot of experience as well, but there are not many opticians with a deep interest and passion for their field. I do have a passion for opticianry, and fortunately for me my employer recognized that and within six months of my hire put me in charge of his optical and opticians.
I set about doing as much as I could to make my optical a place that reflected my interest in the cutting-edge of the industry. During my years there it went from a moderate three-person operation to an advanced and fashionable shop run by myself and the apprentices I train to become certified opticians. We have the trust of our employer and the freedom to make the optical what we like, and are very satisfied with what we have accomplished there.
My particular optical passions are in the "geek chic" and 40s-60s vintage eyewear trends, hand-made bespoke frames, custom magnetic sunglasses, and the most advanced digital lens technology. I have brought all of these products into my shop, and one would be hard pressed to find better representation of these leading fashions and technologies in other opticals.
